Culinary Overview
The classic image of German food is the 'Wurst' (sausage). And though that is not all that they eat here in Germany, the cliché didn’t come out of nowhere. There is not one but many variety of German sausages (more than 1500 types). The Frankurter wurst is the closest ones to the American sausages or “franks.” The Frankfurter wurst is usually accompanied by sauerkraut (coleslaw) and mustard, while in Bavaria, and especially Munich, a
Weißwurst (or white sausage) is consumed for breakfast with a Pretzel and some sweet mustard. In Berlin, you will find the unhealthiest version of the wurst: the Curry Wurst. A sausage, divided into smaller pieces to facilitate the gobbling, drenched in mayonnaise and ketchup with some curry powder sprinkled on it. French fries usually accompany this combination of chemicals and saturated fat. Depending on how much information you have regarding Germanic cuisine, you may have also heard about a certain addiction to pork, especially pork knuckles. Germany also has some succulent deserts; the most famous one is arguably the rich black forest cake.
