Low Sodium Diet In Fast Foods

The USDA recommended daily amount of sodium is 2,300 milligrams per day -- far less than what most people consume. Consuming a diet that is low sodium is healthy for everyone, but for those with medically required low sodium diets due to conditions such as high blood pressure or congestive heart failure, it's crucial. Heart patients and those with high blood pressure have to make food sacrifices, but that doesn't mean that favorite foods have to be given up entirely, just modified and consumed in moderation.

Grilling the Low Sodium Way

If Dad is on a low sodium diet, it doesn't mean a nice Father's Day cookout dinner is out of the question. Although some cookout foods such as hot dogs are loaded with sodium, cooking on a grill is healthier than many other methods, because much of the fat and grease drips away from the food while cooking. Boneless, skinless chicken breast, boneless pork chops and even some steaks are lean and low in sodium.
